Al Shabaab suffers heavy losses in Halgan attack, says president


The president of the federal republic of Somalia H.E. Hassan Sheikh Mohamud said Al Shabaab has suffered irretrievable losses in the attack on AMISOM base in Halgan.

In a statement, the presidents has announced that more than 200 Al Shabaab fighters have lost their lives in the counter-attack by Somali and Ethiopian troops of AMISOM contingent.

Mohamud praised the bravery of the allied troops in repulsing the Al Shabaab attack on Halgan base, saying the militants were defeated in the attempted assault.

“On behalf of Somali government, I warmly welcome the big victory of the SNA and Ethiopian troops in the battle against Al Shabaab and resisting Halgan raid,” said Somali president.

Somali president has vowed that the fight against Al Shabaab will continue until the militants are thoroughly defeated and pushed out of the remaining pockets.
